If you were part of the crowd who adored Ridley Scott’s early innovative works like ‘Alien’ or ‘Blade Runner’ and was disappointed by his later bulk of forgettable films like ‘Exodus’ or ‘Robin Hood’, then ‘The Martian’ (2015) may come as a pleasant surprise to you. Matt Damon’s optimism to “Science the sh#t out of” the barren landscapes of Mars in order to gain contact back on Earth is genuinely heartbreaking and surprisingly comedic at times. With exception to some needless exposition near the end of the film, this is a fun ride from start to finish.
